WARSAW FIFTH AT GARRETT INVITE

Warsaw came through with a nice haul at the Garrett Invite, placing fifth as a team and putting eight of its 12 wrestlers in the top six. Among those were Jose Grimmett and Brock Hueber, both finishing runner-up.

Hueber picked up a fall and a decision to make the finals of the 195-pound class, to which Norwell’s Cale Gray scored a 20-6 tech fall in the championship match. Grimmett made the finals of the 152-pound class with a decision and major decision, then ran into Gage Schuckman of Norwell, who scored a fall at 1:12. Grimmett were 3-1 in his day’s work counting an opening round forfeit, Hueber was 2-1.

Brandon Estepp was third in the 160-pound class, going 2-1 on the day with a win in the third-place match at 16-9 over Leo’s Logan Lothamer. Andrew Ross, Jacob Bass and Brock Hogenson were all fourth in their respective weight classes.

Warsaw scored 123 points to finish fifth in the team standings. Leo held off Central Noble with 201 points to win the team title.

Warsaw closes out its regular season Wednesday with a Northern Lakes Conference dual at Concord.

NORTHWOOD DUO WINS AT CONCORDIA

NorthWood’s Jaden Miller and Jake Lone stood tall after winning their weight classes at the Fort Wayne Concordia Invite.

Miller was king of the 170 class, taking down Concordia’s Sam Hudson in the finals by an 8-1 decision. Lone laid honors in the 182 bracket, pinning Fort Wayne Carroll’s Luke Schwehn at 1:30 in the championship.

The Panthers also had three in consolation finals. Tyler Becker finished third in the 160-pound bracket, beating Carroll’s Craig McGinnis by fall at 4:27. Zach Miller and Cameron Jones both finished fourth in the 220 and 132 brackets, respectively.

Fort Wayne Carroll won the team championship, winning four class championships and landing second in three others.

NorthWood will next compete Saturday at the NLC Championships at Plymouth.

VALLEY LANDS TWO IN GOSHEN FINALS

Tippecanoe Valley had two wrestlers make the finals at the Goshen Wrestling Invite.

Branson McBrier used a forfeit and a decision to make the 126-pound championship, but couldn’t figure out Columbia City’s Jarrett Forrester in the final, losing 16-3.

In the 152-pound card, Jon Humes rode a fall and decision to the championship, only to run into Eastern buzzsaw Brodie Porter, who pinned Humes in 50 seconds.

Valley finished sixth in the eight-team field with 141 points. Goshen held its turf to score 223.5 points to edge Eastern (209.5) and Columbia City (200) for the title.

Valley hosts Whitko tonight.
