Snow and Tigers Melt
Written By TSN Staff on Saturday, January 16, 2010
As the temperature was rising outside, the sound of melting snow could be heard running from rooftops and across parking lots. In the Tiger Den, The Goshen Redskins wrestling team was turning up the heat, too.
The JV matches went a little quicker tonight with 2 mats rolled out and 2 officials. Afterward, one mat was removed, the remaining mat relocated to the center and a short break before the varsity match up.
The first points for Warsaw came from a narrow victory by Peter Manbu in a tough match up that seemed almost like 2 alligators wrestling.
Goshen would then go a long run of points winning the 145, 152, 160, 171, 189 and 215 lbs classes. Zac Erba and Ross Egri put up good matches to avoid the fate of being pinned as several of their teammates were. Chris Root actually moved up from 189 to wrestling in the heavyweight class. Despite being outweighed by at least 20 pounds, Root held his ground for some time before being smothered for a pin.
A couple of bright spots followed with the quickest pin of the night coming from 103 pounder Jarred Brooks who nailed his opponent down with 1:03 left in the first period followed by 119 pound Luis Bowen pinning his man.
Jordan Horney finished out the night with a victory by injury as the Tigers get crushed by the Redskins 49-21.
