TIGER BOYS TRACK NIPPED BY PENN

Mirroring the regular-season meeting, the battle between Penn and the Warsaw Tigers was fierce at the Kokomo Track & Field regional at Kokomo. The 7th ranked Warsaw boys track team finished a point behind the Kingsmen in the regular-season matchup, and once again a point separated the two teams at the Kokomo regional, with Penn taking the regional crown by edging the Tigers 83-82.
The Tigers will be represented well next week at the State Championship meet in Bloomington. Stephen Kolbe captured the high jump with a leap of 6'7", while Ellis Coon took first in the 1600 with a time of 4:20.5, and Spencer Rheinhardt took the 800 with a clocking of 1:55.67.
Also qualifying for the state finals: 400-Wyatt Jones, 49.8; 1600-Jake Poyner 4:22-2nd; 4x4-Wyatt Jones, Spencer Rheinhardt, Ryan Goon, Chad Goon-3:22-2nd. Also scoring points at the regional for the Tigers:
100-8th, Wyatt Jones 11.2
110 H-4th, Taylor Cone 15.2
300 H-5th, Taylor Cone & Ryan Goon 8th
800-Jake Poyner 1:59. 08
High Jump-8th, Zach Rooney 6'2
3200-Robert Murphy, 5th 9:44
The Tigers' 4x100 relay team of Rooney, Kolbe, Gabe Furnival and Tristan McClone finished fourth, just out of the top three that have an automatic berth to the state finals. They are awaiting the results from the Valparaiso regional to determine if they are one of the next three best performances in the state that will advance to the championship meet.
