Warsaw 4, Wawasee 1

It was a competitive final, but like each of the past nine years, Warsaw had enough in the tank to continue its reign as Warsaw Boys Tennis Sectional champions.

Warsaw won two of the three singles courts, a love and three winner from Zachary Nicholas over fill-in Jay Duncan at three singles, and if his marathon win Friday night wasn’t enough Quinn Martin went tiebreakers in both 7-6 (7-5), 7-6 (7-4) wins over Zeke Keim at two singles.

At one doubles, Wil Boren and Tristan Anderson ended Grant Brooks and Blaine Baut’s season 6-7 (4-7), 6-1, 6-3, and Michael Ray and Cole Rhodes put awat 6-1, 4-6, 6-2.

Wawasee’s Holden Babb kept his individual season alive with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Hayden Anderson. Babb earned straight sets wins earlier in the week against Columbia City and Tippecanoe Valley. Babb joins Whitko’s David Ousley in the individual tournament.

Warsaw moves on to face Culver Academy on Tuesday at the Peru Regional. Also playing the regional semis on Tuesday are Bremen and Peru. The Tuesday winners will return to Peru Wednesday for the championship.

Elsewhere, Westview beat West Noble 5-0 in the East Noble final, completing the grid for the Concord Regional. Westview will take on Goshen and host Concord will meet DeKalb in Tuesday’s regional semis.
