INDIANAPOLIS – While the state tennis tournaments are still largely untouched in its traditional forms, a couple tweaks to the alignments hang on local draws.

At Bremen

The traditional five-team circuit at DeSantis Park in Bremen is now a four-teamer in 2020. Wednesday’s matchups will have John Glenn and Plymouth meeting opposite defending champion Bremen and Triton. Winners come back Thursday for the final.

The Lions knocked off Plymouth in 2019’s final, ending Plymouth’s 22-year sectional reign. Triton and John Glenn have never won a sectional championship in boys tennis.

At Goshen

Another four-teamer at Goshen will see 2019 host and defending champion NorthWood have to beat two county rivals to defend its crown. Wednesday will have NorthWood and Bethany Christian meet, as will the host RedHawks and Fairfield. Winners come back to Goshen Middle School Thursday for the final.

NorthWood, which broke a 13-year sectional drought last year, owns wins against Bethany and Goshen this year. The Fairfield contest was canceled.

At Columbia City

For the first time in many moons, the five-teamer once known as the Warsaw Sectional will not be played in Tiger Town. Because of surface issues on the courts, Warsaw will concede to Columbia City as host. With that, the Eagles will take the court first on Wednesday and host Wawasee. Tippecanoe Valley will be waiting on that winner, which will see eight-time defending champion Warsaw meet Whitko in the other semi-final. The championship will take place Saturday morning.

Warsaw’s eight-year run of titles has the team owning 32 titles overall. Columbia City last won a title in 2011, and Wawasee hasn’t won a title since 2010. Whitko and Valley are seeking their first trophies.

Peru will host the regional this year instead of Culver Academy. The two-day regional will take place Tuesday, Oct. 13, and Wednesday, Oct. 14. Winners from Columbia City and Knox will meet in the one regional semi-final, Peru and Bremen winners in the other.

At Concord’s regional, the Goshen and East Noble winners will meet Tuesday, opposite DeKalb and Concord’s winners.
