BREMEN – It’s just more of the same for Plymouth girls tennis.

The Pilgrims won its fifth sectional in a row, its 17th in 18 years and 34th title overall in 36 years going back to its amazing run starting in 1983. The latest title came after Plymouth knocked off Triton, 5-0, Friday afternoon and then Bremen, 5-0, Saturday afternoon to close out the Bremen Tennis Sectional.

The win over Triton saw Plymouth pitch shutouts in four of the five courts. Only the No. 2 singles court had any Triton games won, a 6-3, 6-3 decision for Kate Reneker over Maddie Ritchison. Otherwise, Kyla Heckaman and Aubrey Vervynckt both blanked Molly McFarland and Ivy Powell. Audie Plothow and Mary Beatty beat Lexia Hostrawser and Emma Hepler, and Olive Stanton and Sydni Weir took care of Haley Hooley and Madison Davis.

Coach Al Peckham saw his Triton Trojans bow out at 4-8 this season, but felt his team made marked improvements, especially for a young and untested group.

“The score doesn’t reflect how well we played against a tough Plymouth team,” noted Peckham. “We fought hard and improved a lot over the season. This season sets us up well for the next.”

Plymouth’s win over Bremen Saturday was the final piece to the Culver Academy Regional.

All four teams feeding into the Culver Academy Regional are returning sectional champions. Warsaw, Culver Academy, Plymouth and Manchester all won their sectional championships 5-0 to set up the rematches in the regional. Warsaw will meet Culver Academy while Plymouth will meet Manchester.

Play at CMA begins at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday with the semi-finals, with winners returning Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. for the regional championship. Plymouth is the defending champion. The winner at CMA will take on the winner at Highland back at Culver Academy next Saturday.
