Warsaw Girls Swim Past Vikings

Wed Dec 9th, 2009 Warsaw vs. Huntington North Boys & Girls Swimming Warren, IN
It's not out of the question that all of the Warsaw swimmers might sit on the driver side of bus for the ride home Those 20-30 mph west winds can make a big ole' bus feel like it's getting pushed all over the road. Maybe having the team on the windward side of the bus will keep it from tipping over like the tractor trailer (US 30) we saw on the way to the meet.
By the way, if you were one of the parents or fans thinking you'd drive down to Huntington and see the team compete at the high school... SURPRISE! In spite of the spirit and ability of the Huntington North swimmers, the only pool available to them is about 20 minutes further down SR 5 across I-69 in Warren, IN. This place is so far away that 92.9 FM turns into a Christian radio station.
The small pool is located inside Salamonie Middle School. The facility does not have a dive pool. Diving takes place in the actual pool with a deeper end to accommodate. The board is hinged and tilted all the way up and back against the wall. Don't bother asking the athletic department about this arrangement, as they already feel the pain. If they had a back hoe plus a few thousand dollars, they'd build a pool onto the high school themselves. What a novel concept.
This sort of limits the size and thus, the depth of the Huntington North teams, but intensifies it's dedication and unity. They may not take a lot of places in a larger meet, like sectionals, but they will have some stand-out performances for sure.
The Warsaw coaches did not point out any "super star" performances, but rather complimented their teams by saying, "They did what they were supposed to do. We scored more points. Now, we're going home."
It has been pointed out that Warsaw is able to easily defeat Hunting North in a dual meet by depth. Not water depth, but rather, the proverbial "bench." The Tigers are able to score a lot of points by taking 2nd, 3rd, and 4th where the Vikings simply cannot. However, the Vikings are likely to give the Tigers a contest during sectionals due to some strong individual performances.
