AKRON – The Warsaw softball team faced a Tippecanoe Valley squad coming off arguably the biggest win in its program history just two nights ago.
That did not faze the Tigers in the least.
Courtney Chookie fired a gem in the circle and Lindsey Bradley led the offense as Warsaw blanked the host Vikings 9-0 Friday night.
Valley had defeated Class 2-A No. 3 ranked Whitko 3-1 Wednesday in Three Rivers Conference play. That win came after the Vikings had lost 20-0 to the Wildcats back on April 28 in a game that Whitko ace pitcher Ellie Snep fired a five-inning perfect game.
Warsaw came out swinging versus Valley. The Tigers plated a pair of runs in the opening inning as Saylor Bradley singled.
Warsaw added three more tallies in the fourth frame. The trio of Chookie, Bradley and Izzy Dittmar each had RBIs in the inning.
Chookie, who had been ill earlier this week, went the distance in the circle. The junior was outstanding as she allowed just three hits with six strikeouts and just one walk.
Lindsey Bradley collected four singles to lead th 12-hit attack for the Tigers.
The trio of Carmen Albertson, Katie Anderson and Saylor Bradley each had multiple hits for Warsaw.
Kayla Scott took the pitching loss for Valley. She had three strikeouts in the contest.
Warsaw improves to 10-13, while the Vikings fall to 6-13.
Warsaw will host Manchester Saturday at 6:30 p.m. for Senior Night. The Tigers will honor seniors Saylor Bradley and Emali Grose.
Warsaw will then play Elkhart Memorial Monday at approximately 7 p.m. in a first-round game of the Class 4-A Elkhart Memorial Sectional.
Valley will face Fairfield Monday at 6 p.m. in a first-round game of the Class 3-A Fairfield Sectional.
