INDIANAPOLIS – It snowed yesterday. However, Sunday evening the IHSAA reminded the Hoosier state that the second season is rapidly approaching after completing the sectional softball draw.

Despite being nearly a month away, the IHSAA held its draw for the four class tournaments with the intention on schools having extra time to arrange its dates and times. Sectionals were drawn for pairings, with dates and times to be released by each individual sectional in the coming days. The sectionals are scheduled to run May 20-25, with the IHSAA State Finals set for June 8 at Purdue University.

Class 4-A

Warsaw will host Sectional No. 4 and will have to turn it on right away, drawing Elkhart Central in the first game. The Tigers and Blazers are scheduled to meet May 14 in the final week of the regular season. The Warsaw-Central winner will get either Goshen or Concord in the semi-final, which will prelude the second semi-final, which will feature Northridge and Elkhart Memorial.

Class 3-A

NorthWood also is set to host a sectional, and will also play right away in Sectional No. 18. The Panthers and Culver Academy will battle in the first game, looking for the right to play Jimtown in the first semi-final of the five-team grid. The second semi-final will find Knox and John Glenn locking horns. Knox is the lone ranked team in the field, checking in at No. 10 in the latest ICGSA poll.

Lakeland is the host of Sectional No. 21, another five-team grid. Tippecanoe Valley and West Noble will open the bracket, with the winner to get No. 7 Fairfield in the first semi-final. The bye game will have the host Lakers, ranked No. 15, take on No. 22 Wawasee. Lakeland took it to Wawasee in a 17-8 final in late March.

Class 1-A

Triton has had a tough go this season, but will serve as host for Sectional No. 51. The six-team field will see West Central and LaCrosse meet in game one, followed by Culver and Argos. The host Trojans will see longtime rivals No. 8 South Central Union Mills in the bye game, with the first two winners squaring off in the semi-final opener.
