INDIANAPOLIS - The Warsaw girls soccer team, coming off an emotional victory on Thursday against Concord, fell 3-0 to West Lafayette in the first match of the Pike Invitational.
In less than 10 minutes Warsaw gave up more goals than they had allowed all season. A poor span of play midway through the second half cost the Lady Tigers a chance to win a first round game in the Pike Invitational. Abby Schue managed seven saves. The best chance for Warsaw to score came just ten minutes into the game when Erica Gauger burst through the West Lafayette defense and into the six yard box, but the goalkeeper was able to push the ball wide before going into the goal. The loss is only Warsaw's second on the year and put the Tigers into the Consolation match.
In the consolation match, Warsaw and Covenant Christian played to a scoreless tie. Despite controlling the entire match and creating many scoring opportunities, the Warsaw Lady soccer team was unable to find a goal. The Tigers blasted 10 shots on goal while allowing just one shot. The shutout is the seventh of the season for the team. Warsaw will be in action again on Monday at home versus Ft. Wayne Northrop. The JV match will begin at 5 with the Varsity game immediately to follow.
The Tigers record stands 7-2-1.
