GOLF ACTION - APRIL 22, 2010

VARSITY: WARSAW 154 BLACKHAWK CHRISTIAN 156
JR. VARSITY: WARSAW 166 BLACKHAWK CHRISTIAN 190

The Warsaw boys golf team traveled to Cherry Hill Golf Club in Fort Wayne Thursday to play against Blackhawk Christian. The calm, warm weather conditions were perfect scoring conditions for the 12 Tiger linksters. Four Tigers took advantage of the weather and their countless hours of work on the range to keep Coach Ben Barkey's squad perfect on the season. Jonathan Schram, Tyler Ostrom, Mitchell Gauger, and Tim Ahlersmeyer all recorded scores in the thirties for the Tigers.

Warsaw went into the dual match with a 1-0 record. The format was a six-player varsity and junior varsity match with the teams taking the best four scores from the nine-hole competition.

Freshman phenom Jonathan Schram shot 37 to lead the tigers. Schram started and finished strong with birdies on both the first and last holes of his round.

Schram was followed by junior Mitchell Gauger's 38, 39 by sophomore Tyler Ostrom, 40 by both junior Eric Tandy and lone senior Kal Denlinger. Sophomore Bennett Hollar rounded out the scoring with a 43 respectively. Tandy had a fantastic birdie on the difficult par 3 sixth. Ostrom played consistent all round long starting off with seven straight 4's. Denlinger made a 30 foot birdie putt on the par 5 third and Gauger birdied the tight par 5 eighth.

Blackhawk Christian gave Warsaw a tough match finishing just two strokes behind the Tigers.

On the Junior Varsity side of the match, freshman Tim Ahlersmeyer led the way with a solid round of 37. Tim had help from sophomore Lance Lybarger who shot 39. Sophomore Viraj Gokhale and junior Brody Baldridge both recorded scores of 43. Sophomore Justin Self shot 45 and freshman Evan Cultice rounded scoring with a 47. Warsaw's JV shot 162 as a team and won their match as well.

Warsaw Varisty and JV are both 2-0 to start the season. Great Job Boys!
