John Glenn Girls 6, NorthWood 1

“Not a pleasant night for NorthWood girls soccer,” tweeted Panther head coach Tom Shields following his team’s listless Thursday showing on their home turf.

The contest proved to be a very physical affair with three yellow cards issued, two on the visitors, although popular opinion in the stands and on the Panther bench was that there should have been others handed out as well.

Junior Lizzie Hilderbrandt was the only Panther to find the net, although the goal came late in the second half, well after the contest’s outcome had been determined.

The loss drops the Panthers to 1-4 on the season, with another non-conference home tilt coming on Saturday afternoon against Jimtown.

NorthWood Boys 5, Elkhart Christian Academy 0

In the nightcap of a NorthWood boys/girls varsity soccer doubleheader at Wellfield Park in Nappanee, the Panther boys had their way with their visitors from the north. The scoreboard read 3-0 before most people had even gotten comfortable under their blankets, with two goals by senior co-captain Sebastian Guillen sandwiched around one by fellow team leader Andre DeFreitas within the first 6 minutes of action. Guillen would add two more goals, one in each half, in the Panther whitewash over the Eagles from ECA.

Senior goalkeeper Andrew Graber earned the shutout between the pipes, helping to move the Panther record to 4-1-1. This weekend they will make their annual trip to the Argos Invitational on Saturday where they will open in a very non-traditional matchup with a different flock of Eagles, this time with the team from Zionsville.

Lakewood Park Christian Boys 3, Lakeland Christian Academy 1

In a matchup of ranked 1A teams and potential sectional opponents, #2 Lakewood Park took care of business against the #14 LCA Cougars in a 3-1 match.

Brayden Lane scored the only goal for the visitors, his 10th of the season, but it didn’t cone until the final minute of the match. In the end, Lakewood Park outshot their guests 17-7.

 The loss dropped the Cougars to 5-3-1, with a date at noon Saturday with the Caston Comets.

Wawasee Boys 3, Lakeland 0

The home team Warriors took care of business against a potential Sectional 20 opponent, shutting out their visitors from Lakeland.

Wawasee goals came from Ethan Carey, Alec Wortinger and Isaac Hodges. The win raised the Warriors record to 6-2, with another home non-conference contest coming next  Monday with Bremen.

Warsaw Girls 3, Concord 0

The Lady Tigers earned an important NLC road win on Thursday, shutting out a good Concord team on their own turf.

In a game that saw Warsaw possess for a majority of the night, Audrey Grimm was the hero, scoring all three of he team’s goals. Macy Wayne and Corissa Koontz each was credited with an assist.

The win moves the Tigers to 6-3 overall, 5-0 in the NLC, with just Wawasee and Northridge left on the conference slate. The team will travel to Fishers on Saturday to take on #12 Fishers.

Warsaw Boys 2, Penn 2
