INDIANAPOLIS – Five members of the Warsaw volleyball program were named to a new award from the American Volleyball Coaches Association.

The AVCA announced the first-ever AVCA Best and Brightest Awards for high school senior student-athletes. The AVCA Best and Brightest Award is an award meant to honor individual high school senior student-athletes who excel on and off the court. To be eligible for the Best and Brightest Award, senior student-athletes must earn at least a 3.0 Unweighted/3.5 Weighted GPA (or equivalent) during their junior year and play in 50 percent of their varsity team’s sets during their senior season.

A total of 56 athletes were named to the award, with Warsaw being represented by Abbie Porter and Abby Sanner on the First Team and the trio of Kylie Smith, Sadie Walden and Cora West on the Second Team.

Just two others from the area were part of the list, both from Penn in Emily Hickey and Janet Moala.
