The Tigers jumped out to a lead at halftime but dropped their season opener to visiting Columbia City, 34-14 before a packed house at the Tigers Athletic Complex.
Zach Rooney sparked the Warsaw attack early with a 90-yard kickoff return, and quarterback Austin Head hooked up with Jordan Wray in the second quarter to put Warsaw up 14-13 heading into the half. Colombia City, who finished 10-2 last season, took advantage of five Warsaw turnovers in the game and took control in the second half.
The Tigers defense was led by Jeremy Lehman's 8 tackles. Lance Lybarter and Zach Shepler each had six tackles, and Tristin McClone and Josh Hueber both had 5.5 tackles. Justin Miller had an interception for the Warsaw.
Warsaw will face Homestead next week in Fort Wayne. Homestead is coming of a 57-43 victory over Huntington North.
