The Warsaw Tigers missed opportunities Friday night. They hosted a 3-1 Elkhart Memorial team but a victory wasn't sealed until the final two minutes. The Chargers scored on a 52-yard run by RB Curtis Buford and it was then that the Tigers would open their 2010-2011 season sporting an 0-4 record.
Warsaw's major dilemma this year has been turnovers. Their turnover ratio is -11 with 9 interceptions. They had 4 INT's in this game alone.
In fact, had it not been for the turnovers we can safely say that the Tigers wouldn't have lost 20-7. Four of their first downs came on fourth down and they were a solid 80% on fourth down conversions. Due to converting 4 of those 5 fourth down attempts they only had to punt twice and that looks good for any offense.
There weren't any fumbles in this particular game but overall Warsaw has lost 5 of their 9 fumbles with their opponents only losing 1 of their 2 fumbles.
So if we take the turnovers out, we have plenty of opportunities for the taking in this game. Warsaw rushed for 168 yards and Brock Anson scored Warsaw's only touchdown on a 7-yard run at the end of the third quarter.
Memorial's Hansborourgh ran all over Warsaw's run defense racking up 186 yards by himself with 7.2 yards per carry. Tyler Adams rushed for 65 yards, Jeremy Coppes for 59 and Anson tallied 49 yards for the Tigers.

If the Tigers can work on three different aspects of their game they can be a force for any remaining team on their schedule. They need to turn their run defense around, revitalize their offensive passing game and erase every turnover stat not in their favor while continuing what they're doing everywhere else on the field.
Coach Phil Jensen and his squad have a lot of work to do this week as they travel to Middlebury for another Northern Lakes Conference game on Friday, September 17. Warsaw will battle a Northridge team coming off a 14-13 loss to Plymouth. The Raiders record now stands at 1-3. Both teams are 0-2 in the NLC.
