Tigers Fall To Eagles 35 -16 In Football Opener

The Tigers fell in the season opener at Columbia City on Friday night. The defeat was only the 3rd time since 1989 that the Tigers dropped their first game. Columbia City, led by Senior Quarterback Logan Rehrer, controlled the game to knock of Warsaw for the first time in 13 seasons. Columbia City executed their gameplan of ball control and few turnovers to take down the Tigers. Warsaw on the other hand helped the Eagles by committing 7 turnovers.
PASSING GAME:
Rehrer finished the contest 11 of 20 for 189 yards and four touchdowns through the air. He also ran for a touchdown giving him 5 total scores for the night.
Warsaw quarterback Jeremy Coppes connected with Ryan Lowe on a 26 yard touchdown pass for the Tiger\\\\'s only passing score. Coppes, making just his second varsity start at QB, had a rough night passing. He was intercepted by the Eagle defense five different times while finishing just 8 of 22 for 135 yards.
Senior Tight End Jalen Roscoe caught 4 passes for 45 yards to pace the receivers.
RUNNING ATTACK:
Tyler Adams rushed for a score for the Tigers. Tyler Adams led the Tiger running attack with 98 yards on 14 carries -- good for an amazing 7 yards per attempt.
Jeremy Coppes did have a productive night on the ground as he gained 49 yards on 22 carries.
D-D-DEFENSE:
Senior Matt Abbitt added a safety to close the Tiger scoring. Abbitt has had a tough go of it since being knocked unconscience during the season finale last year. Matt is playing through a family illness and dedicates his time on the field to his mom. Tiger fans who have all been praying for The Abbitt family brought signs in support of Abbit #5 (See Photo Gallery).
Zach Shepler led the defense with 5 tackles and Taylor Cone added an interception for the Orange Crush.
SPECIAL TEAMS:
Jeff Ballenger converted two extra points in the kicking game.
The Tigers will host Homestead on Friday night at Fisher Field. Homestead enters the contest 1-0 after pummeling Huntington North Friday 55-30 at Huntington. Homestead will be out for revenge as the Tigers ended the Spartans\\\\' 2009 campaign by beating Homestead 10-7 at Tiger Field.
