PLYMOUTH POUNDS TIGERS

"Football is a game of running, passing, blocking and tackling." - Vince Lombardi
Plymouth did three out of the four on Friday night. The Rockies rushed the ball 63 times for 440 yards. The Rockies passed for ZERO yards.
Like the Batman television show of the 1970's .... "BOOM, BAM, POW!"
The Plymouth football team came into Fisher Field on a hot, sticky Friday night and did what they notoriously do best...they ran the ball and they ran the ball and they ran the ball. They ran the ball right through the Warsaw Tiger football team en route to a 29-13 victory.
Sam "Bam" Stevens, Plymouths bruising fullback carried the load for the Rockies with an impressive 27 carries for 237 yards and a touchdown.
While Warsaw's defense struggled stopping Plymouth's running game there were a few bright spots for the Tiger offense. Senior Zach Rooney rushed 16 times for 118 yards and a score. Rooneys 55 yard run in the third quarter set up Warsaw's second touchdown of the night ... a 3 yard scamper by Rooney himself.
The Tiger receiving duo of Jordan Wray and Taylor Cone also played extremely well. Wray's 40 yard touchdown catch, a 20 yard catch and a nifty run after the catch put some energy into a less then energetic crowd.
Although the stat sheet does not show it, the gutty performance of senior Brock Anson has to be mentioned. Anson stepped in at the quarterback position and moved the Tigers up and down the field. Anson was not penciled in as the starting quarterback all summer long but the Tigers needed a lift and the senior delivered.
While the defense was getting carved up all night, sophomore Tristan McClone would not be denied. McClone was credited with 11 1/2 tackles. 11 of them solo!
Zach Shepler pitched in with 6 1/2 tackles and Lance Lybarger added 6 of his own. Junior Tanner Dickerhoff intercepted an errant Plymouth pass.
The Tiger football team drops to 0-3 on the season and 0-1 in the Northern Lakes Conference. The team will travel to Elkhart next Friday night to take on the pass happy Elkhart Memorial Crimson Chargers. Memorial completed 13 straight passes to open the game against Goshen and completed 14 out of 15 passes...in the FIRST QUARTER. The Crimson Chargers finished with 404 passing yards defeating a tough Goshen squad 17-10.
