The Tigers traveled to Andrews Field, a place that has been next to impossible for the Tigers to win...how impossible? Well...Warsaw has beaten Northwood at Andrews Field...ONCE in the last 20 years.

In order to get a victory Warsaw needed to play a perfect game. OK, almost perfect. The Tigers were not even close to perfect.

A few glaring statistics .....

2 - 13 passing for 24 yards 5 punts for an average of 26 yards

OUCH!

The Northwood running back tandem of Coy Brown and Derek Diemer added insult to injury. How much insult?

Coy Brown : 29 carries for 192 yards Derek Diemer : 13 carries for 78 yards

All in all, Northwood rushed 43 times for 271 yards!

Brown started the game on Northwood's first drive with a 3 yard blast to make it 7 - 0.
Diemer added a 4 yard run midway through the 2nd quarter, 14 - 0 Northwood.

Brown and Diemer reminded this writer of the "the Pony Express" tandem of Eric Dickerson and Craig James at SMU in the early 1980's (this writer is also showing his age).

Things looked bleak for the Tigers as the first half was coming to a close. However, something good finally happened. Jeremy Coppes found a seam and broke off a 35 yard run. Scott Smyth entered the game and with a perfect snap and hold, Smyth's kick split the uprights from 39 yards out as time expired. The Tigers put 3 points on the board.

Halftime score:

Northwood 14 Warsaw 3

Warsaw managed just four first downs in the first half and allowed junior Coy Brown to rumble for 125 yards on 15 carries and a touchdown.

The second half did not start any better. The Tigers received the second half kickoff but were held to a "three and out." However, Warsaw's defense showed some heart and forced Northwood to punt on their first possession of the second half. Northwood's punt sailed high ... high enough to be fielded. However, Warsaw did not field the punt and the ball rolled down inside the one yard line. With an offense that has been sputtering, you could sense something bad was about to happen.

It did.

Jeremy Coppes was sacked in the endzone for a safety making the score :

Northwood 16 Warsaw 3

Northwood would score once more in the 4th quarter on a Diemer 22 yard run. The kick failed making the score:

Northwood 22 Warsaw 3

With three minutes left in the game, Northwood's Zac Coleman threw an errant pass that was intercepted by Cameron Fritzel and returned 45 yards for a Warsaw touchdown. The two point conversion failed.

Final score:

Northwood 22
Warsaw 9

The Tigers will round out the regular season next week at home. Their opponent .... the Concord Minutemen. The 8 - 0 Concord Minutemen. The 2010 NLC champion Concord Minutemen.

The boys need our support more now than ever. Kickoff is set for 7: 30 at Fisher field.
