Coming off of a big homecoming victory Friday night at Fisher Field, the JV football squad headed to Northridge to take on the Raiders Saturday morning. The Tigers started the game on defense which proved to be a great gameplan. The Tiger defense came out on the first possession and held the Raiders to a three and out. Northridge was forced to punt. Warsaw blocked the punt and it was picked up by Marcos Rodriguez and taken 25 yards the other way for a touchdown! The extra point was added by Zach Breeden.
On Northridge's second possession, the Tiger defense stiffened again. Tristan "the piston" McClone intercepted an errant Northridge pass and rambled all the way for a touchdown! The Warsaw offense had yet to see the field with only 2:00 minutes to go in the first quarter. The Tiger defense was not done yet. Caleb Heckaman also returned an interception for a touchdown putting the Tigers up 21-0 at the end of the first quarter!
The Tigers hot start would not diminish as the offense was ready as well. The Tigers marched right down the field on a tough rushing effort by Tristan McClone. McClone blasted into the endzone for his second score of the game. At the half...Warsaw 28 Northridge 0
The second half got under way and the Warsaw offense was chomping at the bit. On Friday night during the varsity game, senior Peyton Balazs ran through the Northridge defense. On Saturday morning, sophomore Tanner Balazs would not be out done. Northridge kicked off to younger brother Tanner and he returned the kickoff 80 yards ...... all the way down to the Northridge 3 yard line. Tanner was not done. On the first play of the second half, Balazs plunged into the endzone for the Tiger touchdown! The Tiger defense stayed strong throughout and Warsaw was dominating. Warsaw 35 Northridge 0 at the end of the third quarter!
The Tiger defense got the ball back in the hands of their offense to start the 4th quarter. Dylan Campbell rushed for a 30 yard touchdown and the Tigers were running away. The fourth quarter continued and Warsaw finished strong. Tanner Balazs' second touchdown run of the game ..... a 92 yard scamper and the Tigers were blowing out the hapless Raiders.
It would be remiss not to mention the Tiger offensive line. Throughout the entire game the offensive line opened up holes big enough to drive a truck through! The Tiger defense was dominant as well as they pitched a shutout. Final Score Warsaw 48 Northridge 0!
While the varsity travels to Goshen on Friday night, the jv team will be hosting the Redskins at the friendly confines of Fisher Field. Kickoff is at 10 a.m.
