So far this season, Anna Bearss of Warsaw has followed in the footsteps of her teammate Ashley Erba, both at the front of the pack.
The pair went 1-2 at the opening meet in Huntington and 1-2 again at the Baron Classic. In their home invitational 11 days ago, they posted two of the three fastest times in the state at 18:20 and 18:34.
On Saturday at Northrop, Erba and Bearss again ran the fastest times - 18:37 and 18:54 - but in two separate races. Each broke the old course record of 19:02.
Bearss, competing in the freshmen/sophomore race, took the early lead and outran the second-place finisher, Marina Konow of Concordia, by nearly half a minute.
"I went out and had a little fun, but it was different," Bearss said about running alone without Erba up front. Erba won the junior/senior race.
When asked about the fast times she is posting this season, Bearss said, "I just feel so blessed to be running where I am right now."
