Written By TSN Staff on Monday, September 26, 2011
The Warsaw Men's Freshman/Sophomore team does it again.
A week after claiming the top prize at the famed New Prairie Invitational, Coach Jim Mills' youngsters won the most prestigious prize in WCHS Cross Country history. The young Tigers placed 1st in the Culver Academy Invitational this past Saturday as they raced past Indiana's finest programs as well as a few from other states to capture the 1st place trophy. The Tigers knocked off 28 teams including Carmel, Indianapolis Brebeuf, Valparaiso, Columbus North, Lawrence Central, Warren Central, Bloomington North, Terre Haute North, Mason Ohio, & Downers Grove Illinois. Warsaw scored a meet low 60 points by placing 5 runners in the top 25.
TigerSportsNation.com caught up with Coach Mills after the race.
"This is the big time. This Culver Academy Invite is listed on all of the big programs' schedule as a showcase event," Mills smiled.
"To come in here and take home the first place trophy is an amazing accomplishment. Warsaw Tiger Cross Country took a giant leap forward today. Now the entire state of Indiana will be talking about Tiger XC and the future of this program. I trust our kids will respond with the work it takes to not only be #1, but more importantly to stay #1. I am very proud of this group of young men," Mills concluded.
"Let the fun begin."
