For the second consecutive game, the Warsaw Tigers overmatched an inferior opponent at the Tiger Den. Warsaw defeated a 1-0 Columbia City team 49-31 Saturday night to improve to 2-0 on the young season.
Tiger senior Nic Moore poured in 21 points to lead the scoring attack. Juniors Lucas Grose and Jordyn Coon combined for an additional 19 points. Once again the Tiger Big 3 accounted for more than 80% of the Warsaw offensive output. The continued search is on for a fourth scorer.
Much like the Tippy Valley game, Warsaw used an explosive first quarter to bury the Eagles from the onset. The Tigers led the Eagles 13-4 after the first frame. The Eagles were able to keep up with Warsaw in the second quarter as the halftime lead remained at nine (22-13).
The third quarter was dominated by the Black and Orange. Nic Moore scored 7 of the first 9 Tiger points to end any Columbia City hope of an upset. Warsaw led 38-19 at the end of three quarters.
Coach Doug Ogle then turned to his deep bench to finish out the game. All 13 of the Tiger varsity players recorded more than 3 minutes of action in this blowout. The Eagles who knocked off Whitko in their previous game on a last second three pointer by Drew Benedict, could not muster any resemblance of offense on this night. Benedict was a paltry 1 for 9 in this game including a 0 for 8 showing from beyond the arc. Most of which resembled the Hail Mary reserved for the end of an NFL game.
Warsaw didn't shoot it much better from 3-point land as they finished 3 for 12 on the night. Moore made two 3 pointers while Jordyn Coon made one of his own.
On the night the Tigers shot 42.6% from the field while the Eagles fell below the freezing point at 29.4% including 0 for 12 on three point attempts. That is certainly not the recipe for knocking off the #3 team in all of Indiana.
Complete Scoring for the Tigers:
| Nic Moore | 21 |
| Lucas Grose | 10 |
| Jordyn Coon | 9 |
| Jared Bloom | 2 |
| Jalen Roscoe | 2 |
| Joey Sparkman | 2 |
| Travis Thomas | 2 |
| Brock Anson | 1 |
Once again it was Lucas Grose who led the rebounding effort with 13 boards. Grose is averaging an amazing 14 rebounds per contest this season.
The Tigers have started this season in the same fashion they started last year's campaign. We will find out if the Tigers can knock off one of the three teams that were able to beat them last year. This Friday night the Fort Wayne South Archers and Purdue recruit, Raphael Davis, come to the Tiger Den. This will be the first game of the season for Fort Wayne South. This should give the Tigers an advantage.
This Tiger team is good. Just how good? Friday night will certainly be a telling sign to this question.
Tickets for two special events for this basketball season go on sale this Friday night. Included are the December 21 girls/boys Mid-Winter Holiday Classic vs. Triton at Grace College and the boys' basketball appearance in the City Securities Hall of Fame Classic in New Castle on December 30.
Tickets for these two events will go on sale at the boys basketball game vs. South Side this Friday in The Tiger Den. The Triton DH tickets are $6.00 per person while the Hall of Fame Classic tickets will cost $10 for all four games that day. Tiger fans are encouraged to buy their Hall of Fame tickets in advance as the price doubles to $20 the day of the games.
Go Tigers!
