Tiger Freshman Boys Improve to 5-1 With Victory Over Columbia City

Arriving at Columbia City gym at half time gave time to enjoy a moment of confusion. The sign in the main hall way pointed to an opening in the wall the to the right. That opening lead down 3 steps to a door with the sign over it that read, "Girls Locker Room." That pause to ponder allowed the opportunity to notice the door to the right that looked like a closet door, but read, "Men." Obviously, this part of the building was erected long before there was code. Low ceiling, but not a bad place.
Back in the gym, Columbia City Freshman Boys (their team is actually a "C Team" so there are a couple of sophomores) 17 - Warsaw 16. Begin the 3rd round.
First bucket is a steal by Jared Bloom with an easy lay up followed immediately by a bucket by Eagle Jonathon Simmons. Later in the quarter, Tiger tenacity paid off for John Swanson. After he suffered a blocked shot by Tycri Smith (both players logged at 6' 4"), Swanson rebounded and made a deposit. This gave Warsaw a 23-20 lead with 3:15 in the quarter.
At the end of the 3rd, CC's Tristan Wright sank a 3 to make the score 28-23. Smith had a couple of chances to score off a couple of rebounds at the buzzer, but missed. Smith would not score for the night, but if this guy ever finds his mojo on the floor, the Eagles will be a tough bird to beat in the future.
With a little over 3 minutes left, Tim Ahlersmeyer made a steal in near the corner and gave the shovel to Bloom for the easiest 2 points of the night. This put the Tigers up 31-25 as CC went back to trying to find an open shot. CC would move up to 31-28 around 2:30 left in the game. Jason Ferguson gave Eagle Daniel Woll 3 free shots at the charity stripe with a foul on shot beyond the arc. Fortunately, even though the first shot was perfect, the next 2 tanked.
Around a mintue and half, Warsaw got the ball out of bounds after calling time out. Unfortunately, that pitch in was called "over & back." In the final minute, Warsaw took 2 points via a foul on Bloom. Warsw then gave CC the same shot, but Woll missed. Warsaw got 2 more freebies made by Ahlersmeyer. With 19.2 seconds the score, after a bucket by CC's Connor Reed was 35-31 for Warsaw.
A missed que by Warsaw on an in bound ball resulted in a bucket by the Reed to bring CC back to within 2 with only 12.3 seconds. The Eagles fouled, of all people, Jared Bloom on the throw in. Those 2 gifts put Warsaw up 37-33. Depite Reed's aerial attempt for one final score, Warsaw packed up the bus with a "W" from the Nest.
