The Channel 46 TV Game of the Week was in Warsaw Friday night for an NLC battle of the heavyweights. The 11-1 (3-0 NLC) Warsw Tigers versus the 7-4 (2-1 NLC) Concord Minutemen.
The Tigers were looking to extend their 15 game NLC winning streak and maintain a firm hold on first place. The Minutemen wanted to knock off Warsaw and get revenge for last year's regular season and sectional defeats.
Warsaw Mr. Basketball candidate Nic Moore had other ideas. Moore scorched the Concord defense for 20 first half points, including four 3-point bombs.
Sir Sic Nic proved he is more than a premier scoring machine on this night. Moore held Concord's best player, Franko House, to just 6 points. Franko, who is 6'5" tall, holds an eight inch height advantage on Nic and nearly 100 pounds of girth. However, not a single player has been able to match Moore's will to win over the past two seasons.
Moore frustrated House all night long. House was coming off a season-high 29 point performance against Elkhart Central Tuesday night.
Tiger Junior star, Lucas Grose, provided much needed scoring for Warsaw. Grose scored 13 points, including a monster dunk at the end of the first half. Lucas skied above the rim to receive the ally-oop pass from Nic Moore. After catching the ball 4 inches above the rim, Grose power-slammed the basketball before hanging on the basket. Buzzer sounds -- Crowd goes absolutely C-R-A-Z-Y!!
Tigers led 32-30 at intermission.
The second half turned into the NLC war everyone expected. Neither team could get separation from the other.
With the score tied 48-48, the Tigers had 4.8 seconds to go the length of the court. Nic Moore took the inbound pass and drove to the top of the key before just missing a 20 foot jump shot that would have won the game.
Overtime.
Warsaw used clutch free throw shooting to gain the advantage in the extra period. The Tigers connected on five of six CLUTCH foul shots. Sophomore Jared Bloom and Sir Sic Nic both nailed 2 of 2 from the line. Moore's with just ten seconds to go proved to be the difference.
Concord's DeWhaun Alford, who led the Minutemen with 18 points, missed a long three pointer at the buzzer that would have given the visitors the win.
Instead, Warsaw extended their unbelievable NLC win streak to 16 consecutive games.
Complete Scoring for the Tigers:
| Nic Moore | 32 |
| Lucas Grose | 13 |
| Jared Bloom | 4 |
| Jalen Roscoe | 4 |
| Clay Anderson | 2 |
| Jordyn Coon | 2 |
The Tiger Den will play host to the NLC show down next Friday night as Warsaw hosts NLC-undefeated Northwood (10-2 overall). The winner of this game will take a major step toward a conference championship.
