Bear Bryant once said, "defense wins championships."

Concord proved that to be true in Game 1 of the Elkhart Sectional. Dominating in just about every category, the Minutemen held the Tigers to 29.7% shooting on the night in defeating the #10 Tigers 44-34.

The definition of an omen is "a phenomenon or occurrence regarded as a sign of future happiness or disaster." While disaster is a pretty strong word, before the game started on Tuesday an "omen" on what was about to happen to the Warsaw Tigers was unveiled.

Somehow the line up card given to start the game did not have Jordyn Coons name on it. According to IHSAA rules if a players name is not on the line up card he cannot start the game. Coon started every game except the games in which he was injured. Rhett Kesler's name was on the line up card so Rhett had to start the game. This proved to be a non-factor because as soon as the first dead ball occurred, Jordyn entered the game. As much of a non-factor as this was, it was still an "omen" as to what was about to happen.

Things started out well for the Tigers as Lucas Grose completed an old-fashioned three point play and the Tigers led 3-0. As a matter of fact, after the first quarter Warsaw outplayed Concord and led 12-8.

Concord outscored Warsaw 11-3 in the second quarter. That is, until Sir Sic Nic Moore worked his magic and drained a three pointer at the buzzer sending Tiger Nation into the frenzy they have become accustomed to!

However, at the half the score:
Concord 19
Warsaw 18

With this being a low scoring first half, the Tiger faithful knew they were in for a tough and physical second half.

The third quarter proved to be just that as both teams battled and Concord outscored the Tigers 7-6 in the quarter to take a 26-24 lead heading into the 4th quarter.

Concord outscored the Tigers, 18-10 in the 4th quarter as Franco House, who was limited to 6 points the last time he played against Warsaw, canned 9 of 11 free throws down the stretch and finished the game with 19 points and 4 rebounds. It should also be noted that 6'8" Jason Spriggs, who was held scoreless in the last meeting against the Tigers, ended the game with 14 points and 11 rebounds.

There were some glaring stats that stand out in the this game:
• There were only 4 Warsaw players who scored in the game.
• Warsaw only had one player in double figures. (Nic Moore with 19 points).
• Warsaw was out-rebounded 30-12!
• Warsaw shot 29.7% from the field while Concord was much more efficient at 53.6%.
• Warsaw made 5 of 20 from the 3 point line for a paltry 25%.

FINAL SCORE: CONCORD 44, WARSAW 34

Scoring for the Tigers:

The 2010-2011 season comes to an end for the mighty Tigers. A season that ends with a record of 18-5 and 6-1 in the Northern Lakes Conference. A season that ends with an NLC championship. This writer thinks that if you would have taken this record along with a conference championship and told the coaches around the state that they could have this they'd take it and run with it!

Tiger Nation is spoiled and that is a GOOD thing!

Tiger Sports Nation would like to thank our seniors for all that they have done. People come to the games on Friday and Saturday nights and they see the final product. What people fail to think about is the time commitment by ALL of the players. The commitment is the same if you play all 32 minutes or if you do not play at all. The meetings, the shoot arounds, the film sessions and the practices are all the same for all of the players.

Thank you...Brock Davis
Thank you...Chris O'Hara
Thank you...Jalen Roscoe
Thank you...Travis Thomas
Thank you...Joey Sparkman
Thank you...Nic Moore

Tiger Sports Nation would be remiss if we don't feature one of our seniors. One of our seniors is arguably the greatest player to ever wear a Warsaw Tiger basketball uniform. Nic Moore has dazzled us for the past 4 years. Ever since his first game as a freshman against Tippecanoe Valley to his final game as a senior against Concord, Sir Sic Nic has entertained all of Tiger Nation like no other player in Warsaw history.

Nic leaves Warsaw with 2 NLC titles, 2 Sectional championships, a Regional championship, a Semi State championship and a State Runner-Up.

Last year was a magical run. Everything went right for the Tigers. This year we were not as fortunate. Sometimes in life these things happen. We will be back.

We will be back...fighting like TIGERS!
