Hoosier Hysteria! Tigers Turn Focus To Postseason & IHSAA Sectional #4 Crown
Written By TSN Staff on Tuesday, March 2, 2010
After an impressive 18 win regular season campaign, the Warsaw Tiger boys basketball team now enters the postseason. The postseason we like to call March Madness in its 100th year in the state of Indiana.
Coach Doug Ogle's Tigers have certainly accomplished some impressive goals during the first twenty games:
-Second Consecutive 18 win season
-Three players names all NLC (Clemens, Moore, & Grose)
-Northern Lakes Conference Champions
-AP Poll - Final Ranking : Class 4A #6 Team in the State
-Finish season with 11 game winning streak with Victory over ranked FW Carroll.
The Tigers are officially in "one-and-done" territory now. They will begin their quest to win six straight games Friday night at North Side Gymnasium in Elkhart. The famous gym will be the site for the IHSAA sectional #4 action beginning tonight.
Warsaw has defeated every team in the sectional during their current 11 game win streak. Below is a list of those game dates and final scores showing the Tiger winning margins:
January 8, 2010 @ Northridge Warsaw 60 - Northridge 34
January 15, 2010 Tiger Den Warsaw 56 - Goshen 34
January 22, 2010 @ Concord Warsaw 54 - Concord 48
February 5, 2010 @ North Side Gym Warsaw 57 - Elkhart Memorial 46
February 24, 2010 Tiger Den Warsaw 61 - Elkhart Central 49
What types of things does this Warsaw team need to continue to do to not only win a sectional title, but make a deep post season run? Coach Doug Ogle was kind enough to share his sentiments on the postseason with TSN.com.
"Looking forward to the postseason, I think we have the best team along with the best players in our sectional." Ogle said, "The key for us is to remain healthy. If we stay healthy, I would be disappointed if we did not win the sectional crown. Last season our health broke down, especially with the loss of Taylor Long with his broken foot -- that really hurt our team."
Coach Ogle looked even further, "Your goal has to be to win the sectional. After that we are in a very strong regional that will probably include Valpo, Munster or East Chicago, and maybe SB Riley." The coach smiled, "I do not feel we would be outclassed by any of those teams."
"We need to continue to be patient on offense, continue to rebound well, and continue to get to the free throw line." Ogle explained a remarkable stat, "We have a telling statistic this year. We have made more free throws than our opponents have even attempted. That is very difficult to do, but we have done a nice job of getting the ball into the basket area and then making the free throws when we do get to the line. We are shooting free throws very well right now -- it is a strength for this team."
