Leo Boys 69, Warsaw 55

Leo won the first-ever contest between the two schools, and did so in efficient fashion Wednesday night at the Tiger Den.

Leo shot 53 percent from the floor for the night (24-45) and hit 15-24 free throws (63 percent). Blake Davison led the way with 24 points, five rebounds and five assists to keep the Lions unbeaten at 7-0. Xavier Middleton had 17 points and DJ Allen added 12 points.

Jaxon Gould hit double figures in scoring for a fourth straight game, scoring 21 points and Judah Simfukwe also hit double digits for the fourth time in six games with 10 points. Russ Winchester added 12 points and five rebounds as the Tigers evened its mark at 5-5 this season.

Leo created an 18-3 run in the midst of a 37-21 advantage in the second and third quarters, where Leo turned a 15-14 deficit to a 51-36 lead.

Warsaw won the JV matchup 53-40. Kyle Dawson had 14 points and four rebounds to lead the Tigers.

Wawasee Boys 56, Fairfield 52 (OT)

Fairfield turned it on in the second half and forced an extra session, but Wawasee held on to pick up a win over its neighbors to the north in the consolation round of the Wawasee Holiday Invitational.

Wawasee led 32-14 at the half, but the Falcons came all the way back, outscoring Wawasee 21-10 in the fourth quarter.

Keaton Dukes had 22 points and six rebounds to pace the Warriors (3-3) and Ethan Carey had 14 points and four steals. Kam Salazar added five points and eight assists in the win.

Braedon Helms had a double-double of 20 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Falcons (1-7) and Tyson Frey added 15 points and eight rebounds.

In the championship game, Illiana Christian toppled Garrett 66-42. Stats from the game were not provided. Illiana Christian beat Wawasee 47-44 in the morning round and Garrett beat Fairfield 70-61.

Wawasee’s JV found the going tough against Illiana Christian in the morning game at the Holiday Invite, losing 50-27. Carson Smith and Mark Wiggs combined for 16 of Wawasee’s points. In the night game, Fairfield won the contest against Wawasee in overtime, 37-34. Jay Finlinson paced the Warriors in the nightcap with 13 points, and Wiggs added eight points and 10 boards.
