Coon signs with Bethel College!
11/11/11 was a special day for Jordyn Coon. Coon signed his letter of intent to play basketball for Coach Mike Lightfoot and the Bethel Pilots. Bethel is an NAIA Divison II school and is located in Mishawaka, IN. The Pilots are also a member of the MCC. (Mid-Central College Conference)
Jordyn Coon played his elementary basketball for the Washington Hornets. If it wasn't for some kid named Grose, Jordyn would have won a couple of elementary basketball championships. Unfortunately for Jordyn, he and his Washington Hornet teammates had to settle for runner - up, two years in a row. If it was not for Jordyn Coon, Washington does not get to play in the Tiger Den for the city championship.
Fast forward to Edgewood Middle School and once again it was that Grose kid that prevented Jordyn from taking home the hardware. Just like elementary, Coon led the Edgewood Tigers in both 7th and 8th grade only to fall a little short against the school on the other side of town.
Things got a little bit better for " JSmooth" as he entered WCHS. Jordyn bypassed Coach Grose and the freshman team and was moved to JV as a freshman. Coon showed flashes of brilliance as he dazzled the fans in leading the JV Tigers all year long.
Jordyn's sophomore year was special, as it was for all of Tiger Nation. Jordyn started as a sophomore on the team that ran the table (7-0) in the Northern Lakes Conference, won the Sectional, Regional, Semi-State and was a state runner up. Not bad for a kid two years removed from middle school. The highlight of the year for Coon came in the semi-state against Carroll. With time running down in the game and the Tigers up by 2 points, Warsaw was moving the ball around knowing Carroll had to foul. Nic Moore found Zack Linky in the corner. Linky stepped through and bounced the pass to Justin Clemens. Clemens was strong with the ball and found Coon on the right elbow. Again, Carroll had to foul. Without hesitation Jordyn took "one dribble strong" as he and Coach David Wayne had worked on over and over again in practice. Jordyn raised up as all of Tiger Nation went silent. As a matter of fact as Jordyn took that strong dribble to his right and readied for the jump shot, all that could be heard throughout the sea of orange was ... "NO,NO,NO!" JSmooth paid no attention with ice in his veins found the bottom of the net and the Tigers win! The Tigers win!
As disappointing as those losses were as a Hornet and a middle school Tiger, the sweet taste of the semi state championship was even sweeter for "JSmooth!"
Jordyn went on to lead the Tigers in his junior season to another NLC title.
TSN caught up with the 6'3", 160 lb senior and and found out a little bit more about the silky smooth guard .....

Funniest Moment as a Warsaw Tiger basketball player: "I think we were playing at Rochester my sophomore year. After the shoot around before the JV game we were showering, getting ready to watch the game. Zack Linky and Andy Conrad were the last two in the shower. If I remember right, Andy turned the water to ice cold and kicked freezing water on Zack. Andy ran out of the shower as Zack was getting ready to kick water on him. Zack kicked the water and as he did, Coach Ogle was coming around the corner! Zack kicked the water all over Coach Ogle. I sure do miss those guys!"*
*Editors note: As funny as the story is now, it wasn't nearly as funny at the time.
Tiger Sports Nation wishes Jordyn nothing but the very best for his senior year and beyond. We are so proud of you!
