BASEBALL ACTION - APRIL 26

The weekend of rain changed over to a bright blue sky Monday afternoon. It was 65º at game time with a brisk northwest wind. A great night for baseball. The Black Eyed Peas were singing "Tonight's Gonna Be A Good Night" over the loud speaker before the Warsaw Tigers and Northwood Panthers took the field. The title of that song prove to be a prophetic statement for Coach Mike Hepler's Tiger Baseball squad.

In case you missed the first inning of play between visiting Panthers and the Tigers, you missed half the game. In all a total of 9 runs crossed the plate between the two teams in the opening frame.

Warsaw starting pitcher, Joey Hickerson settled in over the next 4 innings to hold the Panthers to the original 2 runs they scored in the first. Hickerson (1-0 ERA 3.50) pitched a total of five innings while recording 5 strikeouts to pick up his first victory of the season. Nick Nunez (0-1 ERA 2.63) closed out the victory on the mound for the Tigers.

Leading the offensive attack for Warsaw was the trio of Josh Witt, Darin Lursen, and James Miglin. Miglin had two hits including a double and now is batting .440 on the young season. Lursen added two hits of his one (one being a double) to improve his average to .320. Witt's lone hit was a double leaving the Star Pitcher with a .304 batting average of his own.

Aaron Christenberry continues to lead the Tiger offense with a .565 batting average.

With the victory, the Tigers improved to 6-1 on the season and a perfect 4-0 in NLC action.

Warsaw will host a key NLC matchup Wednesday night against powerhouse Northridge. Come out to Tiger Field and support your boys!
