NORTHWOOD 2, WAWASEE 1

NorthWood plated a run in the sixth inning, and the Panthers survived a pitchers’ duel with host Wawasee to stay unbeaten in the Northern Lakes Conference Friday.

Matt Dutkowski and Jaden Miller drove in runs by Kyler Hauptli and Josh Stratford in the first and sixth innings, and Cooper Davis gave up just two hits for one run in six innings on the hill. Davis struck out six en rout to the win for Wood. Jason Cripe surrendered a walk versus a pair of strikeouts pitching a shutout seventh for the save.

Kam Salazar and Carter Woody recorded Wawasee’s only hits, and Gabe Moore scored the team’s only run in the bottom of the first. Woody took the tough-luck loss, giving up just four hits and on walk with seven strikeouts for two earned runs.

NorthWood improves to 6-2 with a 3-0 NLC mark. The Panthers host Warsaw Monday at 5 p.m.

The Warriors slip to 5-3 with a 1-2 NLC start. Wawasee hosts Northridge Monday at 5 p.m.

PLYMOUTH 7, WARSAW 4

The Warsaw Tigers lost the lead late in an NLC defeat at Plymouth on Friday.

The Tigers started the scoring with two runs in the second and one in the third before the Pilgrims responded with one in the bottom of the third. Warsaw would add one more run in the top of the fourth inning, but that’s all the offense the Tigers would muster the rest of the way.

Plymouth would tie the game in the bottom of the fourth and then add three more runs in the bottom of the fifth to go ahead for good. The Tigers threatened in the top of the seventh but were unable to push any runs home.

Noah Burgh took the loss for the Tigers. He went six innings, allowing seven runs on 10 hits and striking out seven.

Warsaw tallied nine hits on the day with Liam Patton (3-for-4) and Ian Glogovsky (2-for-4) leading the way. The Tigers (3-6, 0-3 NLC) are in action next at NorthWood on Monday. Game time is scheduled for 5 p.m.
